Join Haunting Nights on a ghost hunt at the terrifying Tolhouse Gaol

The Tolhouse Gaol is claimed to be the oldest Gaol in England and in its 800 years has been home to pirates, robbers and murderers as well as countless common crooks. It has been attacked by rebels and rioters and gutted by enemy bombs.

As you step inside you can feel the harrowing atmosphere that sends a shiver down your spine, echos from the past of murder, death by execution and witchcraft all still linger

Chilling activity is often experienced blood curdling screams from now empty cells, dark imposing shadows are seen and people being grabbed and pushed, is the the jailer or former inmates who remain incarcerated

A ghost hunt here is sure to test the nerve of those who a brave enough to step inside this ancient gaol once darkness has fell

This ancient seat of justice has had many uses since originally built in the 12th century.

In mid 1200s, the building was approved as a jail by King Henry III. It was home to the most feared and dangerous criminals of its day, including pirates, smugglers, and murderers. Many of them were hanged or died due to harsh punishments and inhumane conditions.

Prisoners were often placed in stocks, whipped, beaten, and branded with hot irons!

In 1645, the Tolhouse was used by the witchfinder general Matthew Hopkins during his infamous witch trials

Many people were tried and found guilty these were hanged in the gaol.

The Tolhouse remained as a prison until the late 1800s when after numerous failings in living standards with up to five people in one cell, prisoners were transferred to Norwich Prison.

The Tolhouse was not only a gaol but the main hall was used as a courthouse, police station, town hall,

During your night you will be taking part in various methods of Ghost Hunting to include Ouija boards, table tipping, glass divination, Psychic seances and along with modern day ghost hunting techniques.

Tea/coffee and squash along with crisps and biscuits will be available.

Local street parking is available Just a few minutes walk from the Gaol

Wear warm layered clothing as it can get cold throughout the night.

Wear flat gripped footwear.
