Oliver Cromwell’s House Ghost Hunt Ely Cambridgeshire

Haunting Nights Ghost Adventures continue with a ghost hunt at the only remaining residence of Oliver Cromwell in Ely Cambridgeshire

Having spent many nights ghost hunting in Oliver Cromwells Parliment rooms at The Red Lion Hotel in Colchester with some chilling ghostly activity we are really excited to be able to take you on a ghost hunt to the very place Oliver Cromwell lived and worked.

This 17^th Century house, the only remaining residence of the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell still in existence, other than Hampton Court where he lived for a short period of time.

The original house dates back to to 13th century and was originally built as an priests house and has had many uses in its 800 years existance including an Inn and a rectory

Oliver Cromwell inherited the house along with his title ‘Farmer of the Tithes’ (or local tax collector) making him an extremely wealthy man  He lived here with his wife Elizabeth and their eight children in the mid 1600s

The Ancient house has seen many changes over the years the house over the years and has had much reported paranormal activity, not only on rare ghost hunts here but also in the day by visitors and staff

The most frequently reported being the sightings of a dark haired lady in a long dress with keys at her waist. Hushed voices often heard coming from the upper floors and pacing footsteps, echos from the past maybe?

This atmospheric building can be quite a daunting place to investigate with this well documented and chilling experience

“In 1979, a couple were staying in the haunted bedroom. The Lady awoke finding herself standing in the corner of the bedroom, facing a doorway that should have been on the right. Her feet touched wooden floorboards although she knew the room was carpeted, and a man stood in front of her, she could not see him, but his hands held her arms in a strong grip, hearing a voice in her head repeating the phrase ‘tis not my way’ over and over again. She didn’t know if she was in present time or that of another person’s time. The experience faded and the woman went to bed

Waking  in the morning to aching arms and red finger marks around both. Later after further examination, it became evident that the original doorway had been blocked up and plastered over, and had originally been in the exact place of the woman’s vision the previous night”

Oliver Cromwell was born in 1599 and died in 1658 of natural causes, some say he died of a broken heart due to the untimely death of his most favoured daughter

In 1660 with Charles II becoming king. Cromwell’s body was exhumed, and his body was tried and executed for his role in the killing of Charles I.

With such a diverse history is there any wonder as to why this house is so haunted?
