Haunting Nights Ghost Hunt In The North East
Join Haunting Nights on a ghost hunt in Sunderland at this rarely investigated haunted location
Havelock Towers off Hylton Road has a foreboding history which has left its mark on the building that will remain forever
The building comprises two main parts, the original building built in 1884, and the newer part built in the early 1970s.
During the ghost hunt we will investigating both parts of this spooky building to make contact with the poor souls who remain
The oldest part of the building started out life as a part of the orphanage/workhouse and was used to house the most disruptive children, criminals and the mentally insane.
There are tales of residents having been thrown down stairs, locked in punishment rooms/cupboard and being subject to physical abuse and more unspeakable atrocities in various rooms of the building.
During WWI, the building was used by the hospital as a military hospital for wounded soldiers to come back to Sunderland to recover from their wounds, or to sadly pass away.
After the last of the soldiers were discharged, the hospital retained the building to be used as a Tuberculosis hospice where sufferers were sent to die from this terrible illness.
The building was also used as a home for unmarried mothers and teenage girls who found themselves in the family way and lacking a husband.
The newer part was purpose built for the community centre, and comprises a large entrance area, toilet facilities, a large kitchen, a hall with stage and dressing rooms/changing facilities.
There are reports of shadowy figures being seen in the corridors, doors banging when no one else is in the building, a mysterious stain at the foot of the stairs that would return after deep cleaning the carpet, voices asking to be set free, the lift opening and closing on its own. Numerous people have felt like they are being restrained, others feel like they have been pushed and one person felt someone grab at their throat.
