Haunting Nights Ghost Adventure continues
Join Haunting Nights as we return for an overnight ghost hunt in Weymouth Dorset at Nothe Fort
Since the closure of Coalhouse Fort in Essex we have been looking for a haunted fort and in Nothe Fort on the Jurassic coast in Dorset we think we may just have found it
Located at the entrance to Weymouth Harbour and overlooking Portland Harbour, the Nothe Fort was built in 1860 to protect the Naval Harbour at Portland.
Nothe Fort has had a legendary ghostly whistling gunner for many years, many people claim to have heard his eerie whistling in the Fort’s extensive underground passageways.
Tales of this whistling ghost have been spoken of around Weymouth for decades but no one knows who he is
Other eye witness reports are that of a white figure seen walking the parapets of the building when it is locked and there should be nobody there.
Nothe Fort has extensive underground labyrinth of passageways where much of the sinister activity is witnessed disembodied voices, ghostly footsteps and dark shadows still walk the chilling passageways today
The fort is a vast location over three levels. The lowest level, Magazine Level, was originally designed to store gunpowder and shells.
The middle level, Gun Deck Level, was designed to accommodate 12 heavy muzzle loaded cannons and provide accommodation for the soldiers manning the cannons.
The top level formed the ramparts and provided a raised platform that could be used to fire muskets and light muzzle loaded cannons during an attack on the fort.
